How we started

Inspired by Adam Savage’s book Every Tool’s a Hammer, Darby found himself searching for a place where he could build and create, but there was nothing like it anywhere near. Prompted by Tara, they set forward to create the best place possible. Makerspace of Greenville opened 5 months later and has become the largest makerspace in eastern NC.

Inklings of being a Maker emerged at an early age and I was always intrigued at how things worked. I can’t tell you how many times I took apart whatever I could find laying around! The desire to learn new skills is still present in my every day life. Most of my new projects are geared towards skills I don’t yet possess. If you don’t see me at my desk I’ll be found in the shop.

While I help keep the company’s finances in order and handle our marketing efforts, my real joy comes from learning new skills in the shop. I’ve especially fallen in love with working on the laser cutter—so much so that I launched my own Etsy store to share the creations I’ve made. I’m constantly exploring new tools and techniques, always excited to see what I can make next.
